Police and policing: the approach of Amsterdam (abstract)

Speaker: Elisabeth M. M. Gabel (public prosecutor, Amsterdam; Netherlands)

As trading nation the Netherlands is attractive to organised criminal groups. We are confronted with large scale trafficking of drugs. The traditional methods of law enforcement are insufficient to tackle the problems of drug trafficking. More and more we are searching for other methods. For instance following the money trail instead of the drug trail is gaining importance. Thematic and multidisciplinary approach are the latest methods. Working together with administration, customs and any other party that can help to create barriers.
2 examples of multidisciplinary approach:
1. Project related to serious organised crime groups of West African origin;
2. Project related to an area where serious organised crime groups invest their profits.
